Scarlett O'Hara's Ruby Necklace

Scarlett O'Hara, born Katie Scarlett O' Hara (credited as Scarlett Hamilton - Kennedy- Butler), is the protagonist in Margaret Mitchell's 1936 novel Gone with the Wind and in the later film. Scarlett aims to win Ashley Wilkes. His marriage to Melanie Hamilton and rejection of Scarlett drive nearly all of Scarlett's important subsequent decisions. Scarlett marries Charles Hamilton to hurt Ashley, stays by Melanie's side through the war because she promises Ashley she will, and loses her true love, Rhett Butler, because of her persistent desire to win Ashley. As seen in the above photo, Scarlett wears a Ruby Necklace when visiting the lumber mill to see Ashley. They are caught in an embrace that India Wilkes and Mrs. Meade saw as romantic.
